Isola della Scala, the City of Rice, the cradle of rice paddies for centuries
It is thanks to the natural structure of the territory with its abundance of flat and extremely fertile lands, rich in limpid water springs, that, hundreds of years ago, the first rice paddies were made in the area near Verona. Over the years, the skillful work of the farmers has ensured that the special features of this territory, 20-km far from Verona southwards, has remained intact untill today. Isola della Scala, known as the City of Rice, has been devoted to the cultivation of this prized cereal for centuries.
